Joseph D. Murphy
Joseph D. Murphy brings a wealth of experience to Murphy & Baker Law Firm as Senior Partner. Joe is an integral part of our team with vast trial and courtroom experience. Prior to co-founding our firm, Joe was the founding partner at the Law Office of Joseph D. Murphy from 2011 to 2017. He also held the esteemed position of 1st Chair Felony Prosecutor at the Smith County District Attorney’s Office from 2001 to 2011. Joe received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2001 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University, earned in 1998.
Joel P. Baker
Joel P. Baker serves as the Managing Partner at Murphy & Baker Law Firm, overseeing operations since forming the law firm with Mr. Murphy in 2017. With a background deeply rooted in law and public service, Joel previously held the prestigious role of County Judge for Smith County from 2007 to 2016. Prior to serving as judge, Joel was the founding partner at The Baker Firm, PLLC from 2000 to 2008. He began his legal career as a law clerk for United States Magistrate Judge Harry W. McKee while finishing law school at South Texas College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1995. Following his clerkship, he worked for a criminal defense law firm in Tyler for several years before becoming an Assistant District Attorney at the Smith County District Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2000. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, awarded in 1990.
